Gender Agreement in a Language Contact Situation

Gender agreement between determiners and nouns, gender third-person clitics their referents, are notoriously difficult to acquire by bilingual speakers who lack them in first language, or one of languages. We present a study that explores the differences determiner noun antecedents doubled DPs among Shipibo-Spanish speakers. The oral production data were elicited from 17 adult bilinguals using picture-based narration task show notable difference patterns nouns determiners, antecedents/doubled DPs. Similar found five Spanish-Shipibo living same contact situation. While participants consistently marked strong within DPs, specification was clitic-doubling dislocated structures. These results not unexpected as they mirror previous work, where clitic does systematically match antecedent gender, especially with feminine Furthermore, this confirms evidence gender-specific clitics, lo/la, have been replaced invariable clitic, le, contexts DP an is expected.
